TOC Handicapping Contest

Thoroughbred Owners of California, in partnership with Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, Golden Gate Fields, Santa Anita Park, and the NTRA has teamed up with the National Horseplayers Championship (NHC) to provide members with the opportunity to participate in qualifying handicapping contests throughout 2023 with the grand prize of a seat at the 25th NHC to be held in Las Vegas, March 15-17, 2024.

 There will be six monthly qualifying contests – free and exclusive to TOC members – hosted throughout 2023 awarding entries to the TOC Finals which will be held on December 26, 2023. The winner of the TOC Finals will represent the TOC at the 2024 NHC, which includes a complimentary four-night hotel stay and an $500 airline voucher. 

The dates of the qualifying online contests are:

  1. April 29 – Golden Gate Fields
  2. May 29 – Santa Anita Park
  3. July 21 – Del Mar Thoroughbred Club
  4. August 12 – Del Mar Thoroughbred Club
  5. September 2 –Del Mar Thoroughbred Club
  6. October 21 – Golden Gate Fields
  7. FINAL ROUND – December 26 – Santa Anita Park

These contests are limited to TOC members (California Thoroughbred owners with current licenses). Follow these steps to participate:

  1. Sign up for an account on Horseplayers.com, the Official Online Qualifying Site of NHC and BCBC.
  2. Qualified participants will receive an email with a link prior to each contest.
  3. The top 10 finishers in each of the qualifying events will compete for the NHC spot at the December 26 qualifier. Participants in the top 60 may be represented by multiple entires.

The NHC is world’s richest and most prestigious handicapping tournament of the year for horseplayers and is the culmination of a year-long series of NTRA-sanctioned local tournaments conducted by racetracks, casino race books, off-track betting facilities, and horse racing and handicapping websites, each of which sends its top qualifiers to the national finals. The 2024 NHC is estimated to offer prize money and travel awards totaling more than $4 million. The winner will take home an estimated $750,000 and will be named the 2023 Horseplayer of the Year honored at the 2024 Eclipse Awards.
