Equine Industry Leaders Launch California Horse Power Coalition

As an equine industry stakeholder, we wanted you to be the first to let you know that our community has joined together to form the California Horse Power Coalition (CHPC).

Founded by Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, Santa Anita Park, and Thoroughbred Owners of California, the coalition’s mission is to preserve and protect California’s vibrant equestrian culture by bringing together equine industry leaders, workers, families and fans of the sport to illustrate its significant benefits.

This unprecedented partnership between Thoroughbred associations, backstretch workers and jockeys, aftercare providers, and veterinarians is a testament of the industry’s commitment to working together and pushing the industry to new heights.

As part of that work, our coalition is creating a space for the public to learn about the significant impacts that the industry has on California’s economy, tourism, agricultural sustainability, and culture.

Our Impact:

  • $8.3 Billion in contributions to California’s economy through horse racing annually.
  • $1.7 Billion in tourism spending generated by participants and spectators.
  • 77,000+ workers employed by the horse racing industry.

By bringing our community together to speak as one, our voice can be louder and reach further as we aim to spotlight the many ways the equine industry benefits and enriches communities across California.

We hope that you consider joining the chorus of voices advocating on behalf of our industry.
