Arnold Zetcher Bio
Personal & Professional Background
I am originally from St. Louis, Missouri, and currently live in Los Angeles with my wife, Ellen. I have served as CEO of Bonwit-Teller, CEO of Kohls Food Stores, and since 1987 CEO of Talbots, a chain of over 1100 women’s specialty stores. In 1995 I was named CEO of the Year by Finance World, and in 2000 Retailer of the Year by the National Retail Federation. In 2007, I retired as President and CEO of Talbots, remaining as Chairman of the Board until April 2008. I am on the board of directors of Washington University and National Retail Federation.
I have been a fan most of my life, starting when attending Washington University in St. Louis. When I decided to become an owner, I chose Southern California because I felt that the best year round racing in the world was here. In 2007 I peaked with 41 horses. Today I have 25 fully owned horses, including 15 in training, five broodmares and five young horses. I also participate in several racing partnerships. My top performers have been House of Fortune, Fairly Ransom, Tizzy’s Tune, Good Student, and Gabrielina Giof
Goals as a TOC Director
I believe very strongly in California racing and, as I did back in 2000, believe that it should be the best in the world. Today, there is a good deal of uncertainty in our industry, especially in California. If I can use my business and management background to help establish stability in our industry, that would be my number one goal. Rather than worrying about whether there will be a future, we should focus on doing all we can to deliver a world-class product to our fans. And our owners, who provide the major part of the funding for our sport, must be recognized for their contribution.
