Northern California Top Trainers Will Give Tips on Horse Conformation Saturday, February 24 – Bay Meadows Racetrack

Albany, CA (Feb. 14, 2007) – Trainers John Martin, Ed Moger, and Phil Oviedo will instruct seminar participants in the fine points of horse conformation at Saturday’s FREE “Conformation Clinic” hosted by Thoroughbred Owners of California (TOC). The program begins at 10:00 a.m. in the Horsemen’s Lounge at Bay Meadows Racetrack. From there, participants will proceed in small groups to the stable area, where they will attend a presentation by one of the three trainers on general conformation points, including body types, typical flaws, and how a horse’s build affects soundness and performance.

Martin, who has won races at a rate of 25% or higher each of the past three years, has been involved with horses all his life, having grown up on a breeding, training and lay-up facility in Riverside, Calif. He has been a licensed trainer for more than 20 years. Moger began his training career in Washington in 1976, moving to the Bay Area after Longacres Racetrack closed in 1992. He has continually been among the top trainers in Northern California, and in recent years has been part of a very successful team with owners Curt and Lila Lanning. Oviedo, like Martin, has been involved with horses his entire life. A native of Phoenix, Ariz., he was raised on a ranch and came up on the Arizona racetrack circuit before moving to California 12 years ago. Oviedo currently serves on the board of directors of TOC.

Although it is free and open to the public, reservations are recommended and can be made by calling TOC at (650) 571-0459 or (800) 994-9909. Bay Meadows is located at 2600 S. Delaware Street, San Mateo, CA 94402.

TOC is the official organization serving new, veteran and future Thoroughbred owners in the state. It represents, advances, and protects owners’ interests and rights in legislative, administrative and business matters. Additionally, the organization provides ongoing educational opportunities for current and prospective owners, regularly presenting programs on Thoroughbred ownership including Ownership 101 Seminars, Advanced Horse Courses, and Conformation Clinics
